Doris, reading the newspaper and smiling to herself...oh the bliss!
Someone was here once...
Someone was here once...you can see it from traces of found objects left lying there uninterrupted by others, secured by time..
Dock Area
Few people dare venture in this dock area, mainly because it is abandoned and in a bad shape. Few see its beauty, which in my eyes is sublime.
The Dock area of Marsa, Malta
Stories buildings tell
I am going back to the 80's, when I was still a kid. I am not from this area of Malta, but my father owns a garage here, and as a kid I used to often accompany him. I know this statue, I know these balconies...it is like nothing has ever changed. This area seems to have to stood still with no changes till to date. Each balcony, belongs to a different dwelling, each balcony has layers of stories, each narrating a different story. Place: Marsa Harbour Area, also known as Il-Menqa.
She's gone
She was here for a short while...now she is gone...

Neighbours
In a block of 4 apartments, the one below mine was a mystery. Rumours were that she was Russian, and only came for a couple of days a year. Today after 4 years living in this block of apartments, I caught a glimpse of this elusive lady. I only realised thanks to my cat who was staring intently downwards from the window sill. I took a look, thinking I would find the usual bird, but there she was.
Pleased to meet you Mrs Russia!
Cuban Fashion
Cubans have a thing for all things colourful, eclectic and more. Their sense of fashion is purely Carribean. Scroll down for more
Windows
Windows are apertures into someone else's life. Somehow they speak to us regardless of text. The top one is pretty standoffish, whereas the one below is more welcoming.
A study in B&W
Today we tackled B&W photography in class so during shooting, I told students to shoot with their mobiles set to B&W. I could sense that at first the students struggled to read the image in B&W, but then when they realised that its all about shadow and light, they loosened up and shot better. Here are some of my shots from the day. All photos shot with an iphone 6s.
Cuba Laundry
My fascination with laundry does not stop in my country. On a recent trip to the Caribbean, Cuba to be more specific, I thoroughly enjoyed observing the natives' art of laundry hanging and colourful attire which complimented the buildings and also tells the hidden story of people's daily lives.
Hunting for photos
On Friday I took my Intermediate Photography students to scout around for photos in the Valletta side streets. The theme was colours, but Valletta can be too distracting and one can't help but look at people. This is my take...am looking forward to my students' work!
Today's Laundry
A shadow of what remains from today...
Icons, shadows & doors
A quick visit to my home town Zebbug...found these precious icons along a street which I used to pass by everyday when I lived with my parents...It was a delight to shoot these today!
Sunny Saturdays
I haven't taken any photos of Sunny for a while now. My change of job does not really leave me much time in the early morning to check out on Sunny. However this morning I made it a point to pass his usual spot and there he was seated, bird in hand, cigar in the other having a chat with his friends. Of course I then obliged and shot a group photo however not before I shot Sunny alone against the usual backdrop of the Fair Lady Shop.
University Colours
This morning I tackled colour in photography with my Intermediate Photography class at Uni. We tackled the difference between the primary colour in art theory and light. The additive colours and subtractive colours and also our own personal perception of colour. Then we went out for a small shoot.
Of course I couldn't just stare...I had to shoot too. This is my crop. I am looking forward to see what my students came up with! :)
Impossible Project
I once bought a Polaroid 600 from a flea market for just 7Euros. I never thought much about using it, till last week I got tempted to order cartridge film for it...These are my first attempts...and there will surely be more...
Uprooted
The change in our environment, make us feel like we have been uprooted from our comfort zones and thrown somewhere else. Where can I put down my roots? Which environment suits me as a human being?
2017 Clouds
For once I decided to leave colour...
