CAGLIARI
Cagliari arrived in two rhythms: the stillness of the days themselves, grass, heat, the particular collapse of a body after lunch, and the sudden four-day procession of Sant'Efisio moving past when in town, unplanned for and unrepeatable. Nothing here was sought out; the festival was walked into rather than attended, the way the stroll through shuttered doors and rows of mailboxes was walked rather than toured. Once again, resolved images sit beside unresolved ones: a headdress held still enough to see, a body given over entirely to rest.
