RAGUSA 100[km/hr]

Ragusa was shot at speed and from the passenger seat; the camera raised and fired without composing, at roughly 100 kilometres an hour, so the road decided what entered the frame rather than any choice of mine. What results is largely repetition: the same dry-stone wall, the same roadside grass, the same pale sky, passing again with only the smallest variation. The rare interruptions; a spray of bougainvillea, a bakery sign, a line of wind turbines, a wall of shop shutters, register less as subjects chosen than as the few things the body actually noticed inside a long stretch of sameness. The sequence runs from open countryside near Ragusa into a town's edge, arriving somewhere without ever having decided to.
